Conservation in Action Presents: Rejoining A Diné Dress

Wednesday
June 05, 2024
7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Esteemed Diné weaver Lynda Teller Pete, alongside Avenir Center Textile Conservator Kathleen Martin, have been working to rejoin the front and back panels of a traditional Diné woman’s Biil Ééʼ (dress). Non-native dealers often separated these garments to sell pieces of them individually. Join us for an evening program in which Lynda Teller Pete and Kathleen Martin discuss the intricate process of rejoining such significant garments, providing a rare glimpse into the cultural necessity of restoring them to their original, unified form. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of an extraordinary culture through the art of textile conservation. The Avenir Conservation Center is committed to compassionate and scholarly conservation initiatives deeply rooted in shared learning. Reserve your tickets now and join us in celebrating the living heritage, craftsmanship, and community surrounding these garments. Tickets include admission to this in-depth conversation and an evening reception with a cash bar.
